(look for small sign on the right that says either Camphill Village Kimberton Hills or Camphill Cafe)

To find the bakery, cafe, Rose Hall in the center of the village, continue on Camphill Drive as it winds around (skipping the side streets/driveways) until you approach a mansion type building, bear right around that driveway and keep going on the same main road a short distance more.  On the left is a shed type building with solar panels, just after that is the baker and Camphill Village Cafe.  Park in small lot on right side of the road where you will see a pastel colored low building.  If you get past the buildings to an open space with a nice view, (or if the road comes to a T down by French Creek) you've gone too far.

This link gives an overview of the area.  In the center where you see Camphill Cafe is where you are headed:

Refreshments, bathrooms and what else is nearby:

The KIMBERTON WHOLE FOODS store is lovely.  From the farm, turn right onto Seven Stars Road, pass the Waldorf School and Seven Stars Farm, through the 1 lane tunnel bridge and continue to Kimberton Road.  Turn right and the store is further down on your left.

KWF is open 8am-8pm M-F, 9-6 Sat and 10-6 Sun.  There is also Kimberton Inn on the next corner, just beyond the store, which is a restaurant (not accommodations) for a full meal.  Or, BYO and eat in the field or by the creek for a real country outing.

CAMPHILL VILLAGE is further down Kimberton Road.  After the store, go straight through the 4 way stop sign,  the name changes to Pughtown Rd.  Go couple of miles and the small sign to enter Camphill Village is on your right.

There are BATHROOMS at the Kimberton Whole Foods store and the newly renovated Cafe/bakery building at Camphill Village which is on Camphill Drive (the only main road in the village) past the mansion, on the left just before Rose Hall.  There is also a bathroom in the barn at Seven Stars Dairy.

The SANKANAC CSA GARDEN of Camphill Village can be found by going straight through the village to the T at French Creek Road.  Turn right and park at the barn on the right.  Walk past the barn down the stone road to the big garden.

Overnight Accommodations

Camping or Cabins at French Creek State Park, 30-45 minutes away west on Rt. 23, Right on Rt. 345.  There are 2 lakes and lots of things to do. For information, http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/frenchcreek.aspx

or 1-800-637-2757 or 610-582-9680 or frenchcreek@dcnr.state.pa.us.

> If you wish to camp on the farm, primitive style, please plan ahead of time by contacting spiritualfood@schooloflife.org or the farm directly. This is very important as others live and work in this space.  You could potentially BYO tent and camp in the yard of the intern house which is just beyond the Seven Stars Dairy entrance (same parking lot) and use the facilities at the house if arranged in advance.  Nearby French Creek is also great for a refreshing wash morning, noon or night.

> Bed & Breakfasts are also abundant in the nearby Valley Forge area.  Search the internet and ask how close they are to Kimberton which is just West of Phoenixville.  (If someone wants to do a little research on this for putting on this website, let us know!) We may have some business cards of this on the bulletin board at the CSA garage in Bethesda.

Volunteering on the Farm

Yes! You are welcome.  The Farm works Monday through Friday and Saturday mornings until about noon.  If you want to go on a weekend, they can arrange things for Saturday and Sunday.  Please contact spiritualfood@schooloflife.org and your request will be forwarded to the farm.

PRECAUTIONS

The Farmers and the garden team are very warm and welcoming.  They also work VERY hard meaning they have lots of things to do every day and also need private time for family, meals and rest.  Please be courteous and respectful of their time and do not wear out our welcome!

Poison Ivy and deer’s head ticks (the lyme disease carrying type) are a part of country life here as in many places.  Poison ivy, a 3 leaf plant growing low as ground cover or climbing up trees, usually hovers around the edges of fields, the creek and roads.  To avoid, stay in open areas such as the garden and on the roads.  Ticks are in the open fields and the woods.  To try to avoid, wear closed shoes and tuck pants legs into socks, wear a hat in the woods, sit on tarps.  Check everyone in your party for ticks when you leave or get home looking for the teeny tiny pinhead tick which is the disease carrying one.  Also, just as an extra pre-caution, if any disease symptoms appear in the following weeks or month or two please do not discount them.  Lyme disease is VERY treatable quite successfully if caught early, very difficult if not. (Symptoms are aching joints, swollen lymph nodes, possibly a rash, flu like symptoms.  (If you wish, there’s plenty more information on this on the internet.)
