Yoga Classes

Shanti Yoga offers a multi-level experiential program emphasizing a balance between body, mind and spirit and exploring the art of yoga in daily life. Hatha Yoga routines generally follow the classical system as taught by Swami Sivananda.

The following classes are held at the Center in Bethesda, MD. Classes are also held in downtown Washington, D.C., at Georgetown University, the Guy Mason Recreation Center in Georgetown, and The Maternity Center. Other locations may be arranged.

Foundation of Yoga: For people who are new to yoga or have been away from it for a long time and for practitioners seeking a review of the basic precepts, this course introduces yoga philosophy and teaches a basic Hatha Yoga routine.

Open Classes: All levels of students can join these classes.

Positive Pregnancy and Parenting Through Yoga: Pregnant women and mothers of infants and small children need special attention. It is important to learn self care and to realize the impact that the mother has on the new life.  Pre-Natal Yoga for expectant mothers, Mother/Baby Yoga (with infants and toddlers), Women’s Water Yoga and Childbirth Education (HypnoBirthing) classes are offered.  Also, “Spiritual Motherhood: Creating a Peaceful Family” is a new program for mothers with classes on Ayurveda and other methods of self-knowledge/ self care.  Please click on

Water Yoga Water yoga is an excellent way to deeply relax, while simultaneously rejuvenating one's body, mind and spirit.  The warm, soothing environment offers the self-care that so many of us need, whether dealing with a physical ailment, a stressful situation, or just life's daily demands.  It is also a great way to exercise for anyone who loves the water and especially for people with conditions that might limit their options for movement.  The class includes yoga postures, breathing and relaxation in a warm, private pool.  Come at our scheduled time or set up a private class for yourself or a group of friends.  Thursday night class is for women only.
